Depuis l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, les villages de Vir\u00e9 et de Cless\u00e9 sont intimement li\u00e9s \u00e0 la culture de la vigne. D\u00e8s le VI\u1d49 si\u00e8cle, les diff\u00e9rents ordres monastiques favorisent son expansion et structurent durablement le paysage, la vie \u00e9conomique locale et le commerce. Au fil des si\u00e8cles, le vignoble s\u2019impose comme l\u2019\u00e2me de ces deux communes, fa\u00e7onnant leurs coteaux, motivant leurs savoir-faire et pr\u00e9cisant leur identit\u00e9. Les archives du XVII\u1d49 si\u00e8cle mentionnent d\u00e9j\u00e0 les vignes de Vir\u00e9 et de Cless\u00e9 dans le d\u00e9nombrement de la ch\u00e2tellenie de V\u00e9rizet, t\u00e9moignant de leur renomm\u00e9e ancienne. Cette histoire commune, forg\u00e9e par la continuit\u00e9 du travail des hommes et l\u2019identit\u00e9 forte mais partag\u00e9e des terroirs, trouve son aboutissement en 1998\u00a0 avec la reconnaissance officielle de l\u2019appellation Vir\u00e9-Cless\u00e9, consacrant ainsi des si\u00e8cles d\u2019engagement et de passion vigneronne.<\/h2>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

V\u00e9rizet: a renaissance<\/h4>\n

V\u00e9rizet is the name of a village that no longer exists, as it is now part of Vir\u00e9. Vir\u00e9 and V\u00e9rizet merged in 1968 and the named geographical location of V\u00e9rizet was consigned to the past. And yet it lives on through our wines!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Vir\u00e9: a destiny in a name<\/h4>\n

The Latin word viriaco, meaning \u201cvine cultivation\u201d, attests to the ancient roots of Vir\u00e9\u2019s wine-growing tradition. The cartularies of Saint-Vincent de M\u00e2con and Cluny record wine payments as early as the 7th<\/sup>century in Vir\u00e9 and Quintaine, \nindicating that wine has historically been the area\u2019s main crop. The village of\nVir\u00e9 belonged in turn to the bishop and to the chapter of\nM\u00e2con cathedral. In circa 1000, the vineyard extended\nfrom Morgon to Tournus, including Vir\u00e9, Uchizy\nand Plottes, among other villages. On 19 January 1616, Vir\u00e9 and its vineyards\nwere listed in the inventory of the Ch\u00e2tellenie de V\u00e9rizet.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

1928 \u2013 Beginnings<\/h4>\n

The Cave Coop\u00e9rative de Vir\u00e9 was founded in 1928. \nVarious producers voluntarily joined forces with the aim of surviving the\nfinancial difficulties caused by the First World War and phylloxera.
\nThe Cave had always been renowned for the quality of its white wines and was also very much ahead of its time commercially.
\nFrom 1958 onwards, under the chairmanship of Ren\u00e9 Boudier, it began to\nmarket its wines in Paris where a cuv\u00e9e of Vir\u00e9 wine was inaugurated annually in Montmartre, which was twinned with Vir\u00e9.
\nThe first cellar to retail wine by the litre, it went on to pioneer the \nsale of the 75 cl bottle in 1970. The Cave entered the export market\nin 1972, going against the advice of the Burgundy wine trade, which subsequently boycotted its wines.<\/p>\n

1995 \u2013 An alliance is formed<\/h4>\n

The Cave de Sennec\u00e9-l\u00e8s-M\u00e2con strengthened and supported\nVir\u00e9\u2019s business, which had suffered from the urban development of the town of M\u00e2con and the surrounding area, losing land and estates.
\nA merger took place in 1995 between the two wine cellars, leading\nto the creation of the \u201cchai de Sennec\u00e9\u201d, a storehouse located in the centre of the village.<\/p>\n

1998 – La naissance d\u2019une appellation<\/h4>\n

L\u2019appellation Vir\u00e9-Cless\u00e9 voit officiellement le jour par d\u00e9cret d\u2019application du 26 f\u00e9vrier 1999 et devient la 5\u1d49 appellation communale du M\u00e2connais. Elle incarne l\u2019aboutissement d\u2019un engagement collectif fort entre les vignerons de Vir\u00e9 et vignerons de Cless\u00e9, ainsi unis par la conviction de la singularit\u00e9 et de la qualit\u00e9 de leurs terroirs. Cette reconnaissance par l\u2019INAO marque une \u00e9tape d\u00e9cisive dans l\u2019histoire du vignoble\u00a0: L\u2019appellation r\u00e9gionale M\u00e2con-Vir\u00e9, cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1936, \u00e9volue alors naturellement vers l\u2019appellation village Vir\u00e9-Cless\u00e9<\/em>. Aujourd\u2019hui, la r\u00e9colte des raisins, la vinification et l\u2019\u00e9levage sont autoris\u00e9s et r\u00e9alis\u00e9s sur le territoire des seules communes de Cless\u00e9, Laiz\u00e9, Montbellet et Vir\u00e9 en Sa\u00f4ne-et-Loire, un vignoble qui s\u2019\u00e9tend sur 390 hectares.<\/p>\n

2009 – Ouverture de la Maison\u2026 V\u00e9rizet<\/h4>\n

In the late 2000s, the Cave de Vir\u00e9 began a new venture. It contributed to the renovation of the centre of the village of Vir\u00e9 by establishing a new tasting venue right by the production buildings. This signalled the genesis of the Cave de Vir\u00e9 as the brand it is today. The venue is dedicated to tasting and presenting our terroirs.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
